Ingredients
-
1 lb ground beef (it's not traditional, but you can substitute ground pork, turkey, chicken or plant-based ground alternative if you like)
-
1 red bell pepper, diced, or substitute 1 small jar diced pimentos
-
1 bottle Mesa de Vida Latin Inspired Cooking Sauce
-
1/2 cup green olives, sliced if you like
-
2 Tb raisins (it's delicious, but if you don't like raisins you can leave them out)
-
1/4 cup water
-
Salt to taste
Directions
-
In a soup pot or sauce pan over medium-high heat cook the ground beef until golden brown
-
Stir in red bell pepper, cook for 1 minute
-
Stir in remaining ingredients, bring to a simmer, then cover and lower the heat to low
-
Cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally
- Serve with hot cooked rice, black beans, plantains, or with mashed potatoes.
Tip:
Some picadillo recipes call for diced potato to be added. If you'd like to, add 1 large peeled, diced potato along with the sauce and water and simmer an additional 15 minutes until the potato is tender.
