picadillo recipe on a plate with rice and beans

Picadillo Inspired Skillet

Picadillo is a ground meat stew popular across many Latin American cuisines. Our version is a quick and easy, flavor-packed recipe that starts with our Latin inspired cooking sauce so you can bring this healthy, delicious meal to the table in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (it's not traditional, but you can substitute ground pork, turkey, chicken or plant-based ground alternative if you like)
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced, or substitute 1 small jar diced pimentos
  • 1 bottle Mesa de Vida Latin Inspired Cooking Sauce
  • 1/2 cup green olives, sliced if you like
  • 2 Tb raisins (it's delicious, but if you don't like raisins you can leave them out)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Salt to taste

Directions

  1. In a soup pot or sauce pan over medium-high heat cook the ground beef until golden brown
  2. Stir in red bell pepper, cook for 1 minute
  3. Stir in remaining ingredients, bring to a simmer, then cover and lower the heat to low
  4. Cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally
  5. Serve with hot cooked rice, black beans, plantains, or with mashed potatoes.

Tip:

Some picadillo recipes call for diced potato to be added. If you'd like to, add 1 large peeled, diced potato along with the sauce and water and simmer an additional 15 minutes until the potato is tender.
