Jambalaya-Inspired Pasta

Servings 4 -6 servings


  • 1 lb ground sausage preferably nitrate and sugar free; or use your favorite vegetarian sausage
  • 1 jar Mesa de Vida Creole Cooking & Seasoning Sauce
  • 3/4 cup half & half
  • 6 oz frozen shrimp if using fresh, add just at the end of cooking and simmer just until cooked through
  • 12 oz hot cooked pasta
  • salt and extra hot sauce, to taste Mesa de Vida cooking sauces are extremely low in sodium, so you salt to your own tastes/health needs
  • optional: shredded parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes, and fresh basil for serving


  • While the pasta is cooking, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage to the skillet and cook until golden brown, breaking up into crumbles as it cooks.
  • Add the Mesa de Vida Creole Cooking & Seasoning Sauce and salt to taste. Simmer for 2 minutes.
  • Add the half and half and shrimp to the pan. Bring to a simmer, cook until the shrimp is cooked and the sauce is thickened to heavy-cream consistency. Add hot sauce to taste, if you wish.
  • Stir in the hot cooked pasta. Top with parmesan, hot red pepper flakes, and fresh basil if you like.
