These bad boys are fancy enough for a hearty appetizer at your next cocktail party, but they are simple enough for your backyard weeknight grill session too.

Taking these healthy Beefy Latin Burger & Fry Sliders camping, or to a picnic? Here are some tips for success:

  • Mix the meat and Mesa de Vida Global Gourmet Healthy Cooking Sauce of your choice (Smoky Latin for Latin flavor, but you can also make Moroccan, Creole or Caribbean burgers by switching up your sauce) ahead of time, form into burgers then freeze on a sheet pan. Pop the frozen patties into a freezer bag and bring camping, or to your picnic, frozen. Toss them on the hot grill and cook straight from frozen in about 12-15 minutes. *If you’ll be freezing the meat, or just forming them ahead and refrigerating, you’ll want to season to taste with salt when cooking, don’t add extra salt to your burger mixture ahead of time as it will draw out the moisture.
  • Roast the potato slices ahead of time and freeze as well. Reheat the “buns” on a sheet of foil on your grill.

Whole30 and Paleo Friendly Beef Latin Burger & Fry Sliders

Serves 4 as a main course, 6-8 as an appetizer or light bite


2 large potatoes (use Russet or sweet potatoes), sliced into 1/2″ thick slices

Healthy oil/fat of your choice to coat

Salt and pepper to taste

1 lb ground beef (substitute turkey, chicken or pork if you wish)

1/2 jar Mesa de Vida Smoky Latin inspired healthy cooking sauce

Salt to taste, optional

Thinly sliced onion, tomato, lettuce, sliced jalapenos, or whatever delicious burger fixing you love


Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Place the sliced potatoes on a baking sheet and lightly coat with oil. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Bake for about 15 minutes, turning once about half way through. Bake until the potato slices are just tender, but not falling apart.

Meanwhile, combine the meat with the Smoky Latin inspired healthy cooking sauce, add salt to taste (our sauces are low in sodium so YOU control the salt level, but also super flavorful so you can use no/less salt if you’re watching your sodium intake). *If you’re not cooking right away leave any additional salt out, and season the burgers just before cooking.

Form into 8 mini burgers, flattening them out to about the size of your potato slices. Use your thumb to push in on the center of the burgers to form a bit of an indent, which will help keep them from turning into little balls when cooking.

Grill or pan sear to cook to the degree of doneness that you like.

Serve on the roasted potato slices, topped with the fixings of your choice.
